About
The goal of this site is to keep other “Opporteneur’s” or what I refer to some time as the “New Rich” at heart up to date on pertinent information and resources for their daily lives.
So why launch this site? For many years, I wondered where is my place in this life? What am I good at? Could I create a product to help the world or just start a business to secure my finances? The more I searched the more frustrated I became. Then I realized, at 31 years of age, I am an OPPORTUNEUR! After college I got a job at one of the largest staffing companies for warehouse personnel. The territory I was given was making the company $50,000 per year. After 18 months I had the territory making the company $512,000 per year. After not playing well in office politics I was let go from the company. I then bought a very popular pizza franchise. I was very successful in running this operation but after 5 years decided it was time to bow out gracefully. So how does this make me an opportuneur? Very simple, at the time I wasn’t smart enough to start my own staffing company nor my own pizza restaurant. However, I was able to take the tools and systems these companies had in place and make them even more successful. The advantage, very little risk and some financial gain. The downfall from a true entrepeneural spirit, at the end of the day you are still working for someone else.
So what is an “Opportuneur”? Simple, it’s a person who starts a company or helps launch a company to the next level for reasons that are fundamentally opportunistic. These people are business savy and understand the whole dynamics of launching a business, but tend to lack the creative part like an entrepeneur.
So, how does this differ from an “Entrepeneur”? Entrepeneur’s are and will always be the backbone of new ideas and how business’s get started. They put their blood, sweat, tears and all their finances into ideas and exhaust every angle to make sure their idea is like no other. What entrepeneur’s have a hard time doing is taking their great idea and actually making money. That’s where an opportuneur steps in.
Examples of Opportuneur’s: the dot-com companies, venture capitalist, info commercial companies, and anyone who has started at a company and made it better while ultimately gaining part ownership or spinning of their own business.
